Roque Bluffs State Park

Roque Bluffs State Park is an outdoor-recreation wonderland all year round. A 274-acre park with half a mile of beautiful beach, Roque Bluffs also invites picnicking, hiking, bird watching, boating, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Choices, choices

This diverse park has the unique feature of offering both the ocean (bracing) and a 60-acre fresh-water pond (much warmer) for swimming. There is a playground for the children and a picnic area, as well as picnic benches along the hiking trails. The four hiking trails total six miles, and lead through woods, meadows, orchards, over hills and along rocky beaches. Bird watchers can spot bald eagles, Hooded Mergansers and Barrow’s Goldeneye, to name a few. Canoeing and kayaking are popular sports on Simpson Pond, as is trout-fishing and bait-fishing. Cross-country skiers love this park in the winter. Sightseers appreciate the naturally beautiful habitats and scenery, the abundance of wildlife and dramatic sea cliffs. From a boat, they can also view Libby Lighthouse, which has been in continuous operation since 1817.
